Charleston has never encountered the challenges it faces today. 

From such policy issues as over-reliance on tourism, rising floodwaters, and the affordable housing crisis to specific concerns like the future of cruise ships in a pandemic era, the development of Laurel Island, and the updating of the Comprehensive Plan, our city is beset with challenges on every side. And the stakes are high: the resolution of these issues will shape the direction of this city for generations to come. In order for Charleston to thrive as a vibrant, livable city, we need strong, effective advocacy. 

We can save our city, but we cannot do it alone.

The need for immediate, vigorous, and effective advocacy to protect Charleston has never been greater — and the Preservation Society of Charleston is uniquely positioned to lead the way. For one hundred years, we have fought hard for the place we call home — the place we refuse to lose. 

We are committed to standing up for Charleston, whenever and wherever it matters.

As we begin our second century of passionate, principled preservation work, we must take our advocacy to a new level. To ensure a more sustainable, resident-oriented future for our city, from Johns Island to Cainhoy, we plan to mobilize the broader community and galvanize a movement.
