Sallie Enders Simons (1927-2012) was a great supporter of historic preservation and the arts in Charleston. She attended Ashley Hall School in Charleston and graduated from St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, Virginia, after which she studied at Parsons School for Design. She was a member of the Preservation Society of Charleston, the Colonial Dames of South Carolina and the Huguenot Society, as well as an accomplished artist with a large portfolio of watercolors. Along with her wonderful sense of humor she had a strong sense of history and community.

The Charleston Heritage Symposium was established in 2012 by an all-volunteer board of decorative arts and cultural heritage enthusiasts. Limited to 75 patrons, the Symposium offers a delightful fall weekend in this historic South Carolina seaport renowned for its landmark buildings, magnificent homes and gracious hospitality.

The Preservation Society of Charleston was founded in 1920 and is the oldest community-based membership historic preservation organization in the United States of America. Our mission is to inspire the involvement of all who dwell in the Lowcountry to honor and respect our material and cultural heritage. Membership in the Preservation Society is open to everyone.
