Planned Giving & Bequests
  Planned giving is the process of designing an asset management strategy so that you can accomplish your charitable and giving goals. A good planned giving program can result in a favorable current tax status by allowing for current year charitable deductions as well as substantially reducing estate and inheritance taxes. Should you choose to include The Preservation Society of Charleston in your planned giving, we are available to meet with you and discuss options that suit your needs and requirements. We always welcome you to contact us with any questions you may have.

Bequests

A bequest is a transfer of cash or property by your will. After providing for your family and loved ones, you may choose to include The Preservation Society of Charleston in your will. This can be easily accomplished by including a simple designation in your will:

I hereby devise, bequeath and bequest to The Preservation Society of Charleston located at 147 King Street, Charleston, South Carolina, 29401

(the sum of $______) (all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate) (____percent of my residuary estate) to be used for (__________________).

Insurance Policies and Retirement Accounts

You may choose to name The Preservation Society of Charleston as a beneficiary to an existing insurance policy or your retirement account. A charitable gift of this nature can reduce the size of your taxable estate and help you avoid income tax on your retirement account and/or IRA.

Charitable Trusts

You may choose to name The Preservation Society of Charleston as a beneficiary in a charitable lead trust or a charitable remainder trust. Charitable lead and charitable remainder trusts can provide you with income for life and offer you a current charitable tax deduction.
   
Sponsorship
 

Society Sponsorships are an excellent way for businesses and organizations with a philanthropic component to support us in a variety of ways and be recognized for their generosity. Individuals are also welcome to contribute as sponsors.

Heritage Education Sponsor: The Heritage Education Program seeks to educate and instill a sense of pride to youths in the Charleston community about their history, culture and customs. Sponsorship contributions are needed to development classroom materials costs and field trip expenses.

Carolopolis Awards Sponsor: Started in 1953, this is oldest continuously running program at The Society. The Carolopolis Awards is our tribute to those individuals who have upheld the preservation ethic through exceptional renovation, restoration, preservation or new construction in Charleston. Sponsorship contributions are used to underwrite the costs of the awards program and reception.

Fall Tour Sponsor: The Fall Tours of Homes and Gardens, a key fundraiser for the Society, is also a highlight event for the City of Charleston, attended by thousands of people worldwide. Sponsorship contributions are used toward advertising, PR, mailing, brochure printing and other associated Tour costs.

Preservation Progress Sponsor: In print since 1957, sponsorship contributions are used to cover the costs to publish and distribute our quarterly publication, Preservation Progress.

Special Events Sponsor: Throughout the year, The Society holds a number of events, Plantation excursions, day trips, and our Annual Author’s Book Signing. Sponsorship contributions are used to cover the cost of hosting/producing each event.

Quarterly Lecture and Reception Sponsor: Each year, the Society holds four lecture and receptions by keynote speakers on a variety of topics relating to the history, culture and architecture of Charleston. A wine and hors d’oeuvres reception follows the lecture. These are extremely well-attended events that are a highlight benefit of membership. Sponsorship contributions are used to cover the costs of auditorium rental, catering, and beverages.
