Preservation Society of Charleston announces Evan R. Thompson as Executive Director
Wednesday, May 05, 2010 - The Preservation Society of Charleston is pleased to announce that Evan R. Thompson will start work as the Society’s Executive Director on June 1, 2010. His appointment was previously reported by Robert Behre of the Post and Courier. Mr. Thompson’s responsibilities include enacting the positions and plans of the Society’s volunteer Board, and utilizing his experience and training to develop and implement the 21st century vision of the 90 year old advocacy group. The Society’s executive director is the individual in charge of the Society’s operations, staff and is the chief advocate on preservation issues for Charleston and the region. The Board will rely on Mr. Thompson’s professional experience, enthusiasm and proven record in Beaufort, South Carolina to reinvigorate and unify the preservation community in Charleston.
Mr. Thompson is leaving the post of Executive Director of Historic Beaufort Foundation, a position he has held since 2005. Thompson holds a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and a B.A in History from the University of Richmond. Prior to his work with Historic Beaufort Foundation, Mr. Thompson practiced law in Austin, Texas. He has authored three publications since 2004 on subjects concerning history and architecture.
The purpose of the Preservation Society is to cultivate and encourage interest in the preservation of buildings, sites and structures of historical or aesthetic significance and to take whatever steps may be necessary and feasible to prevent the destruction or defacement of any such building, site or structure such purposes being solely eleemosynary and not for profit.
