Elizabeth Kirkland Cahill Distinguished Lecture, ft. James Lima
May 7 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

We are pleased to announce this year’s distinguished guest speaker, nationally-renowned urban strategist and planner James F. Lima, President of James Lima Planning + Development.
The lecture, entitled What it Takes: Building Great Public Places, aims to inspire Charleston about future development opportunities to enhance our community. Lima specializes in the Economics of Placemaking™ required to develop urban destinations that successfully leverage public and private sector financing to build dynamic public spaces that contribute to some of the world’s greatest cities. Current PSC Board Chair Andy Gowder, a respected land use attorney focusing on conservation and historic preservation, will moderate the discussion.
Established in 2022 as a continuation of Betsy’s legacy at the Preservation Society of Charleston (PSC), the annual Elizabeth Kirkland Cahill Distinguished Lecture is intended to advance the educational mission of the Preservation Society by featuring a nationally recognized thought leader in the field of urban planning, historic preservation, tourism management, or a related field.
The Cahill Lecture is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The lobby will open for check-in beginning at 5:15 P.M. and theater doors will open for seating at 5:30 P.M. Food and beverages are available for purchase from the Charleston Music Hall concessions bar in the lobby.
Current PSC Members are invited to join us immediately following the lecture for a members-only reception across the street from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. in the Camden Room at the Charleston Visitor Center (375 Meeting Street). Enjoy the opportunity for further discussion amongst fellow members and PSC staff, as well as complimentary beer, wine, and light bites. No additional registration is necessary, but guests must be a current member of the PSC to attend the reception.
