Digital Communications Coordinator

The Digital Communications Coordinator provides support to various departments of the Preservation Society of Charleston (PSC) by publishing day-to-day website updates, emails, and social media posts inclusive of advocacy issues, preservation initiatives, fundraising priorities, and retail and e-commerce goals, while maintaining existing digital content. In collaboration with the Manager of Operations and Communications, the Digital Communications Coordinator will also manage ongoing Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), and paid advertising initiatives in order to grow the mission of the Preservation Society by expanding our online reach.

This position is ideal for someone looking to manage dynamic back-end web, email, and social operations for a non-profit organization –  while having the opportunity to grow online retail revenue in order to meet e-commerce goals. This position is full-time and reports to the Manager of Operations and Communications.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Digital Communications Coordinator serves as a key member of the PSC’s Operations and Communications team and should be a proactive collaborator and creative thinker. In addition to the key roles and responsibilities below, the ideal candidate will be passionate about the PSC’s mission and will be a team player who is able to perform a variety of roles.

  • Publishes day-to-day website updates inclusive of advocacy issues, preservation initiatives, advancement priorities, and ecommerce growth;
  • Supports SEO/SEM optimization while following the annual SEM budget;
  • Performs regular cleanup and maintenance of the PSC’s website backend;
  • Works cross-functionally with various departments to align on content placement strategy and launch dates for products and initiatives;
  • Troubleshoots site issues on both WordPress and Ecommerce platforms;
  • Fully tests all content/page launches and regular site updates;
  • Formats email newsletter content in EveryAction and schedules/publishes once approved;
  • Publishes content to social media from the PSC editorial calendar daily and as advocacy issues arise;
  • Supports digital ad placement while following the annual advertising budget;
  • Maintains organized and digestible digital communications analytics;
  • Assists in special projects, as assigned;
  • Stays current in the non-profit communications industry by attending educational opportunities, webinars, and workshops, reading publications, and cultivating professional networks;
  • Provides ideas to the Communications team related to digital content and mission growth;

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Digital Merchandising, Marketing, or other related field and/or equivalent experience;
  • Experience updating and managing WordPress and/or E-Commerce platforms;
  • Experience managing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM);
  • Familiarity with building email newsletters in Constant Contact, MailChimp and/or EveryAction;
  • Familiarity with publishing content from an editorial calendar to various social media platforms.

Required Skills

  • Ability to adapt and respond with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced and evolving working environment;
  • Ability to lead projects effectively, demonstrating excellent collaboration skills with other staff members and external web vendors;
  • Ability to manage time, work independently, and meet deadlines in a remote work environment, if necessary;
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.

Starting Salary

$40,000 to $50,000 based on experience
