Historic Morris Street

Explore Charleston history through the lens of the Morris Street Business District. Established just before the Civil War, the neighborhoods around the Morris Street Business District were home to free and enslaved Black people as well as multiple waves of immigrants from Europe and Asia. This digital exhibit illuminates the complex history of this often-overlooked yet essential part of the city, as it maps over one hundred years of the district’s history, building by building, for your exploration.
