Walking Tour:
250th Anniversary & Revolutionary History
Sand dunes, palmetto trees, and Patriots proved to be the powerful ingredients that withstood the world’s most dominant navy. While tyranny loomed over the Jewel of the South, the Patriots built a palmetto tree fort on Sullivan’s Island to ward off the invasion of Charles Towne.
Walk with tour guide, Judi Edgar, as you visit the area of that palmetto tree fort where Col. William Moultrie led the South Carolina militia to victory over the Royal Navy of England. Discover the legendary commanders and resilient soldiers who defied the odds to achieve impossible victory. Meet the opposing commanders and discover their ruthless strategies to seize the island, and more!
