Ways to Give

The Preservation Society of Charleston relies on the support of our members.

Ways to Engage

Changes to Charitable Giving in 2026:

  • Taxpayers in the highest income tax bracket will see the value of their charitable deduction benefits capped at 35%. For example, a $10,000 gift that generates a $3,700 tax savings would be limited to $3,500.
  • Itemized charitable deductions will only apply if your total donations exceed 0.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). Smaller donations may no longer reduce your tax bill unless they clear this new threshold. For example, if your AGI is $200,000, only gifts above $1,000 would be deductible. Strategies such as bunching donations could maximize tax efficiency before the end of 2025.
  • Corporations will no longer receive a tax deduction for charitable giving unless it equates to at least 1% of the company’s taxable earnings.
  • Beginning in 2026, individuals can deduct up to $1,000 or married couples filing jointly up to $2,000 in above the line charitable deductions. This is an advantage for those who do not itemize and take the standard deduction, which will increase to $16,100 for individuals and $32,200 for joint filers in 2026.
