The Septima P. Clark House Historic Marker Dedication Event

preservation-admin , February 2, 2024

Please join the Hampton Park Terrace Neighborhood Association and the Preservation Society of Charleston on Saturday, February 24, 12:30-2:00 PM for a dedication of a historic marker honoring the legacy of nationally renowned civil rights leader and educator Septima P. Clark at her former residence, 364 President Street. Mrs. Clark lived at 364 President from 1967 until her death in 1987, and it was here that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited her during his visit to Charleston in July 1967.

A reading of the marker text and reflections from family members will be followed by an outdoor reception on President Street, rain or shine. We hope you can join us in celebrating the life and impact of Septima P. Clark, who Dr. King called the “Mother of the Movement.
